Types of Nail Enhancements

  • CND Solar acrylic nails (aka “Solar” nails) are a specific type of acrylic nail system created by Creative Nail Design (CND), a well-known brand in the nail care industry. This system uses a unique formulation of acrylic that is designed to be lighter, comfortable, more flexible, and more durable than traditional acrylic nails. CND Solar also resists yellowing compared to regular acrylic.

CND Solar acrylic nails consist of two components: a liquid monomer and an acrylic sculpting powder. When these two elements are mixed together, they form a bead that is sculpted on the nail bed and it hardens without the need of a UV light. Solar acrylic can be applied to natural nails or extensions.

At Uptown, we only use CND professional liquid monomer and acrylic sculpting powders to ensure the utmost quality and safety of your nails.

Solar nails are recommended for those who need long lasting strength and durability, those who prefer long nails, and it offers versatility in nail shape and sculpting.

  • Bio Seaweed Gel is a type of hard gel created by the Bio Seaweed brand. Bio Seaweed Gel is made with ingredients derived from natural sources, including seaweed, which provides nourishing properties for nails.

The gel is brushed on the nail base and cured under the UV light to harden. Sometimes this can cause a temporary spike in temperature of the finger tip as the gel cures. Bio Seaweed gel can be applied to natural nails or extensions.

Bio Seaweed Gel is recommeded for those who want a more natural option for nail enhancements.

  • Powder dip uses a specialized powder combined with a base and top coat to create a beautiful, chip-resistant manicure.

The process involves applying a base coat to the nail, then dipping the nail into a pigmented acrylic powder. This is typically repeated for multiple layers to achieve the desired thickness and color intensity. Afterward, a sealant is applied to harden the layers, resulting in a durable and glossy finish. Powder dip can be applied to natural nails or extensions.

Powder dip offers more strength than gel polish (shellac), and can be applied to nail extensions.

  • Gel Polish is a type of nail polish that uses a gel formula. It is applied like regular nail polish but unlike traditional polish (which air-dries) gel polish is cured under a UV or LED light to harden and set instantly. In comparison to regular polish, gel polish lasts much longer, is fade and chip resistant, and provides a high-shine finish.
